January 19, 1999; Hampton, NH - The Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) Board of Directors elected Albert H. Elfner, III of Boston, MA to its Board.

Mr. Elfner is a senior executive with over 30 years experience in the financial services industry. Currently he is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Keystone Investment Management Company in Boston, Massachusetts. Mr. Elfner is 54 years old.

"As Chairman of the Board of Keystone Investment Management Company, Mr. Elfner has successfully navigated the changes in a deregulated financial services industry. He knows what it means to innovate in an uncertain business environment." said Unitil CEO Bob Schoenberger. "He also brings a wealth of financial community insight which will help guide Unitil toward its strategic goals."

Mr. Elfner begins his position as Director effective immediately and will stand for election to a regular three year term at Unitil’s next Annual Meeting of Shareholders in April 1999.
