Unitil Makes an Impact at United Way Day of Caring
Hampton, NH; September 16, 1999 – Over one-third of
Unitil’s employees contributed close to 900 hours of volunteer work
while participating in this year’s United Way Day of Caring, an event
that mobilizes thousands of people to help agencies assist local people
in need through the hands-on work of volunteers.
"It’s great to see the employees come together and help out local
organizations with so much enthusiasm and teamwork," said Unitil
Chairman and CEO Robert Schoenberger, who also took part in the event.
"Unitil’s employees are committed to community service and volunteerism,
and the energy they put into events such as the Day of Caring proves
that." Schoenberger also added that Unitil supports this commitment
with its Community Service Benefit, which provides every employee
with 8 hours of paid time per year to use performing community
service activities.
Unitil employees from all company locations, including Fitchburg,
Exeter/Hampton and Concord, participated in the Day of Caring at
various locations:
- The Unitil employees in Fitchburg made up the largest company team ever to participate in the North Central Massachusetts United Way Day of Caring this past June, cleaning and landscaping at the local Red Cross.
- In Exeter/Hampton, Unitil brought in its bucket trucks to paint the house and barn of the Seacoast Hospice this week. Employees also helped with landscaping, cleaning and general repair work.
- Organizations such as the Penacook Community Center and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests benefited this week as well from the hard work of Unitil’s Concord employees.
These volunteer efforts saved community non-profit organizations
tens of thousands of dollars, money that can now go directly toward
agency services.
In addition to its volunteer efforts, Unitil is a strong corporate
supporter of the United Way in all three of its local service areas.
Unitil’s CEO Bob Schoenberger is on the Board of Directors for the
United Way of the Greater Seacoast, and served this year as Chairman
of the Pacesetter Campaign and will serve next year as Chairman of
the Employee Campaign.
