Hampton, NH; December 17, 1999: The Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) Board of Directors elected William E. Aubuchon, III of Princeton, MA to its Board.

Mr. Aubuchon is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of W.E. Aubuchon, Co., Inc., a 91-year old retail chain of hardware stores in the Northeast. Mr. Aubuchon is 55 years old.

"Mr. Aubuchon, whose business is a customer of Unitil, runs a dynamic, customer-focused enterprise. His commitment to the customer, his knowledge of how retail markets work and his exploration of the potential of the Internet make him an ideal board member," said Unitil CEO Bob Schoenberger.

Mr. Aubuchon begins his position effective immediately and will stand for election to a regular three year term at Unitil’s next Annual Meeting of Shareholders in April 2000.
