Hampton, NH – October 18, 2000: Unitil Corporation (AMEX: UTL) (www.unitil.com) announced today that Stephen J. Curran has been hired as Controller, Unitil Service Corp., reporting to Anthony J. Baratta, Jr., Unitil Corporation’s Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Curran will be based at Unitil’s corporate headquarters in Hampton, NH, and will direct the Company’s regulated and unregulated accounting operations including managing the Company’s budgeting, tax, and financial reporting functions.

Mr. Curran joins Unitil after a 21 year career with Bay State Gas Company where he was the Corporate Controller. He is licensed as a CPA and has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Boston College and an MBA from Boston University. Steve is a member of several professional associations including the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Financial Executive’s Institute. Steve currently resides in Canton, MA.
