Your electric orelectric or gas meter tells Unitil how much energy (in kWh for electricity orin kWh for electricity or in ccf for natural gas customers) your property has used in the previous billing cycle and can help keep you informed of your monthly energy use too.
By comparing your monthly use over time, you're able to make more educated decisions about your energy usage. This information can be used to determine ways to decrease your consumption, which in turn will lower your monthly bill. Unitil utilizes both an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) andboth an Automated Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and an Automated Meter Reading system (AMR) to capture customer meter readings wirelessly, without visiting your location. These technologies provide accurate readings on the cycle billing day as well as throughout the billing cycle. However, you may still wish to read your own meter from time to time.
